Hearty Sweater

I had this big idea a few months ago to make a sweater with a giant heart on the front. It might not really be my idea since I saw a bunch of sweater with hearts on the front and, my favorite, on the elbows (heart elbow patches!) on Pinterest.
I found some 10$ sweaters at Old navy (maybe in November) and picked up some super felted wool from work. Voila! Heart sweaters.
My model is the lovely Mia. My sweater is a mossy green with a cream heart.
The black sweater, not such a great idea. We have a few pets and their shed fur loves this
sweater.
We got actual snow last night. What a shock. I'm sure my fruit trees are in shock too. I have a feeling we wont be getting much fruit locally this year. They were already in bud and thinking about opening yesterday.

Spectrum Zigzag Quilt

A few months ago I participated in a color wheel charm swap. My color was green/yellow. I sent half yard cut charm squares from two different assigned colors. In return I got a stack of one each from the other participants. Yay me.
After this two quilt top was done I had lots of half square triangles left over so I think I will make pillows to go with this quilt.
I quilted a half inch away from the colored sides making this ridiculously easy to quilt. Maybe an hour.
So, sort if a UFO but not really. I am going to work on a store display next. Radioway by Jaybird Quilts in Moda's Salt Air.
I have been asked a few times how it is I have so much time to sew. Its true, I spend a lot of time sewing. However, 2.5 days of the week my girls are with their dad and the choice is either housework or sewing. Yah, sewing wins.
I like the distraction. I watched The Help when the girls were gone and sobbed throughout it over May Mobley. If I think about some stuff too much ....lets just say sewing is good.

Garden Quilt

A UFO that was started early last year. It was a block or two a month through my Modern Quilt Guild. The mystery block guidlines were very open. One month was was make a tree block.

I tried my hand at paper piecing. This little guy might be 3 or 4 inches high. He is a free pattern I found on flickr.

Here is one of my tree blocks. Another paper peicing block is up in the corner, a mushroom.

I love all the fabric I pulled for this top. So bright, lots of orange.

The backing will be a Jay McCarroll fabric from a few years ago. Is this what "doe eyed" is? Or 'just say no"? Into the long arm queue. I wish we had a toadstool quilting pattern. That may be gilding the lily but go big or go home. OK, enought cutsey sayings for one day.

Tula Pink Love Quilt

I love my Love quilt! I stared this one back in December. It comes together so quick, maybe 2 hours total.

Heather custom quilted it and I think it is amazing. Can you see the spokes coming off the L and the E? The Tula Pink pattern calls for 8 fat quarters and 3 yards for the background. The left overs make for a fun scrappy binding.

I used Tula Pink's Loulouthis and Prince Charming fat quarters.

It is going to live a The Quilt Barn for a while and then Mia will be getting this one.

Urban Cowgirl Peek

I have a huge super crush on the Urban Cowgirl fabric line. I wanted to make something quick and a jelly roll meant I didnt have to spend alot of time cutting.

I used Cluck Cluck Sew's pattern, Off Grid. Its in the long arm queue.

Day of the Dead Quilt Top

I have been hoarding this Day of the Dead fabric forever. I made my brother a quilt with this line a few summers ago and wanted to make one for myself. Again, a UFO that was mostly done. I just had to make one wonky star block and then put them together.

So bright. It is about a table topper size. Add that to my 'to be quilted' pile. Its small enough I can do it myself on my machine.

A Notion or Two Top

This UFO is about 3 years old. Yikes. The blocks are from round one of the virtual quilting bee, A Notion or Two, hosted on flickr. The six blocks are made by my bee members. I put together the sashing and borders.

Pretty cute. Thanks ladies! I have 6 more blocks and will be putting together another quilt of little dolly dresses. One for Ava and One for Nuala. I'm not sure about the sashing and borders on the next one. I have about 2 charm packs left from this line so maybe something with that.

Now, I really should finish round 2 and 3 quilts. I'm close.

I will have to free motion quilt this one on the long arm. All the cute little embellishments wouldnt like being sewn over.

Valentine Quilt

I was really into the Valentine spirit this year wasnt I? Maybe because it is red. I like red. Pink is OK. I had a pink milkshake today. What a coincidence.

Raw edge hearts cut in 2 different sizes, sewn on with a machine blanket stitch, and hand echo quilted with perle cotton around each heart. The background white was quilted with free motion machine hearts. I started out with loops and swirls but ripped that out. I can quilt hearts but everything else free motion is crap.

I have been busy working on my UFOs. I have actually been getting stuff done. I am finding that I am 75% or more finished these projects but pooped out before completing them. Also, my finished projects is piling up. What to do with them?

Valentine Pillow

I was searching for Valentine sewing projects and saw this one and knew I wanted to make one like it. Amy, of Diary of a Quilter shares a tutorial for it on her blog.

Charm Pack Quilt

Its that time for another Beginner's Quilting at The Quilt Barn and I am teaching a 2 charm pack class baby quilt from piecing to binding this time. And younger people can take it with an adult.
This is my store sample. I used 2 charm packs from the Little Apples Line.
It just happens to be laying on another Little Apples quilt for the picture (made by Jenele). Our store window with an old iron bed bed has the best lighting.
Simple diagonal quilting and washed to show how great quilts look after being washed. I used a scrap of poly batting but somehow after washing it looks like cotton. Love it.
The red and white sweater check makes for a good binding too.

This Saturday is our monthly Guild's All Night Sew and I am hoping to get some bindings finally sewn on. Then when the girls are at their dad's I can sit and watch Sons of Anarchy on Netflixs while hand sewing the other side on. Love that show! And I found an ipad app for PBS so I can watch new Downton Abby episodes. Thank you PBS!

Scrappy Quilt

Last summer I visited my mom and her sewing room. I found these fabric and had to make something with them. The fabrics were left over from a kit she made, lots of jelly roll strips and some children playing to fussy cut for the middles. The border is an old pezzy print. I am so glad that this print has been released again and in so many different colors.

Amy quilted it up for me yesterday and now it just needs binding. I am so glad to get this UFO finished up from last summer. I think I really like this one and it may have to go on the playroom wall.

Paper Plane Quilt

I started this one sometime in the fall 2011. I had made another quilt out of this line, Children at Play, and had some leftovers. The paper plane is a print from City Weekend by Oliver + S
I was heavily inspired by a quilt designed by Sarah Jane Quilt Market booth.

Kaleidoscope Quilt

I have my Kaleidoscope quilt top back from the long arm quilter (thanks Amy!).
I used Cluck Cluck Sew's Pattern and Secret Garden fabrics.

I used scraps from the fat quarters to make the center circles but I am wondering if I should have used something that would have shown up better.

At any rate, its done and will hang out at The Quilt Barn to show off this fabric line. After I get it bound. Yah, still have that to do. Into the binding pile. I think Saturday sounds like a good binding day.

Sweetheart Quilt

I was heavily inspired by this picture on pinterest. Tres chic, non? I tracked it further to this flickr page by happylifedesigns. If she has a blog I would love to see it.

I made my Sweetheart Tree quilt with dark brown for the bark, tan binding and red for the heart. I had embroidered the initials and attached the heart with spray baste and a machine blanket stitch.
I didn't show the back but it is a lovely French general alphabet.

Shouldn't auto-correct know flickr, facebook, and pinterest are words by now? Seriously.

I have noticed a trend in blogs and facebook lately. Not a quilting trend (although I have found a few I have book marked for future). It is about honesty, truth telling. Mostly about how we bloggers don't really blog about the truth. Its no revelation that blogs are sanitized and put through photoshop. Kids are clean, happy, fed organics and get straight A's. Houses are clean, bright and happy.
But that isn't all is it? That was a real question.
Why don't we tell it all? I don't know why other people wouldn't share the not so perfect moments. I know why I don't.
The blogs that I love and can't wait to read are the ones that I can relate to. I like these people and understand their struggles. It makes me feel less like a loser for not keeping up with perfect.
I went through the blogs I follow because and unfollowed some because I felt bad after reading their posts. Its not their fault, its not their job to make me feel good.
I had this recurring daydream where for one post I tell the truth. I don't care who reads it or what they say. Its my story dammit. Maybe someday I will let it out for a one day only post.
Now, i am off to color match more white for my hexagon UFO.

Pumpkin Seed Quilt

I have been working on my 2011 UFO's. I have discovered more than I remembered having. I am setting up a sewing room again (after having everything in boxes for many months).
Here is one I started in February at a Monastery quilt retreat Jenele and I went to.

I used Oliver + S City Weekend for the seeds and a cream sheet for the background.
The batting is cotton and is quilted with a small to medium stipple to give it a vintagey feel when washed.
This one just awaits the binding (another UFO pile. Maybe 4 in it).
It is going to live at The Quilt Barn for awhile and work as a store sample and then...no idea.

We actually have winter here in Idaho. Up until now it has felt like fall. I'm a big fan of this but I understand why we need snow, and lots of it, so I will try and not complain. Too much. I'll just have to pile the girls and I under lots of quilts.

I can't remember if I showed you this quilt.
When I saw Penny's pattern on Moda Bakeshop I knew I had to make it. We didnt have that fabric line in the store but I though Oliver & S City Weekend would make great sailboats.
I love this quilt and the pattern. You should check her blog out. She has some amazing tutorials.

A Walk in the Woods

Right before Christmas I squeezed in one last store sample for The Quilt Barn.
We got in Aneela Hoey's A Walk in the Woods charm packs and I had to dig in. I wanted something simple and quick. We have a lot of beginner quilters come in the store. I am going to write up these simple directions soon.
I couldn't wait for the yardage (coming in February I think) so I used the Pink Puppies for the backing and and the scarf for the binding from her Sherbet Pips line.

A few other pre-Christmas projects. I whipped up a bunch of quilt as you go potholders from my ever growing scrap bucket.

These 3 pillowcases I gave to my girls. I used Twiddletail's Magic Burrito Method. I think I made 12 and didn't quite make as many as I wanted to. I will have to make sure I get those done and gifted this year.

A day before Christmas my sewing machine said it was taking a break and I just got it back from the repair shop. Thankfully it wasn't a big repair and I should be back at it this week.
I have a Walk in the Woods fat eighth stack I want to dig into and get started on some Valentines stuff for the store. Thanks to Pinterest for the inspiration (link is to my pins)

A "G" Girls Tradition

Merry Christmas all. I thought I would share with you a Christmas tradition my girls and I really like. Every year we add a new or vintage pin or charm to our stockings. Sometimes they have meaning (like the peridot palm tree, its Mia's birth stone) and sometimes its just cute.

My stocking from when I was little.

The wooden scottie dog is this year's addition. I think it is from the 40's and a mere dollar. I really like the 3 paper dolls, for my three girls.
Nuala and I picked out the pins this year and found some for next year too. I didnt tell the other 2 girls and waited for them to notice their new pins.

Mia's stocking picture came out a little warped. The toe is laying on some branches. I made her this stocking when she was one, way before I was a quilter. It still look like something
I would make, even after 11 years.

New Earrings For Me

Do you know how hard it is to take a close up picture of your ear without showing your face? Really hard. I must have taken about 20 pictures of these super cute earring I
won trying to get one I didnt want to delete immediately. The one above? Doesnt even show my earrings. And shows way too much of my face. This just reminds me of how much I dont like my nose (looked really great on my dad, on me? Not so much).

Now, here are the super cute earring. Ignore the laundry basket and such in the background. I need an assistant.
Now on to the important point of why I am blogging...

I was going to title this 'Im a Winner" but thought better of it. Sounds hokey.
After 5 years of entering giveaways on blogs I won something. Yay me. I am wearing them right now. I love them.

Random Christmas

I am trying out my new camera and sharing thrifting (still typing that thirfting).
I thrifted the brass urn (that is holding the mini tree), 1.50$. Not sure if I should spray paint it.
I am so excited about my paper whites and amyrillis' (yah, not sure how to spell that).

I guess I have been stashing away vintage Santas so I popped them in a jar. The girls thought this was hilarious.

5$ chair that matches the color of my dining table. Even with the crack its awesome.

The green piano all dressed up. I finally hung my turkey platter collection (1-4$). Folding ruler star (5$ new), white milk glasses vases and urn (.50-2.00), spindle tree toppers (.50), white santa head mugs (.25 ea).

I have a box of goodies I am going to share but turns out you have to buy the memory chip separate and my internal memory only holds 3 pics.
More Christmas pics to follow too.
I also realized I have way too much vintage Christmas stuff so I think I am going to put them on etsy next year. Slowly gearing up to reopen the shop. New camera? Check. Now I need ideas for lighting my dark room. Any suggestions?

Guild Swap

Saturday night was our second annual Magic Valley Modern Quilt Guild Christmas Party, Present Swap and All night Sew.
I was the very lucky recipient of something handmade by Trina. Isn't this hoop gorgeous!
Next weekend I am working on setting up my sewing room and I cant wait to hang all my handmade art that I have received

Mary also made everyone in the Guild a zippered pouch. I love this out of print fabric line so I was very pleased.

Thanks Trina and Mary! I am a lucky girl.

PS: late night sew meant 4am for some. Not me. I am a wimp.

Single Girl Vintage Sheet Quilt

Just before the Single Girl Quilt Along was started I bought a fat quarter bundle of Katie Jump Rope on etsy. It felt like I had to sell a kidney to pay for it but I just had to make this with this line. It was a line that was going fast. After the sew a long was announced that bundle priced jumped. A lot. So glad I got it when I did.
So, I was super nervous to cut into it. I decided to make a practice pillow. I did but still not ready. Then a practice quilt with some vintage sheets.

It worked out pretty good so I went ahead and cut into my beloved Katie Jump Rope.
The room I took these pictures in isn't the best so it looks a little yellowy.
Now all it needs is binding. I really should work on a lighting space. I am gearing up to stock my etsy shop again and would like nicer pictures.
Also, this month marks my 5 year bloggiversary.

Grinch Advent Calendar

I saw this tutorial on The Fat Quarterly's blog (I would link for you but linky still not working) and knew it had to be made. Now. Again, big distraction. But so cute.

Whats with me and novelty fabric this Christmas? My Grinchy heart is getting bigger?

Mr stuffed Grinch moves over a pocket everyday.
I really did'nt need to make a sample pout of this fabric. We keep selling out and ordering more but come on!
I have next years all planned out. It involves little houses.
I need to update my book list. I have been reading. I am currently enjoying The Poisoner's Handbook (not quite what is sounds like).

Swoon Table Topper

Until Christmas presents are given and opened I can't reveal too much of what I am sewing right now. I can show you the sewing I am doing for The Quilt Barn. The red fabric was just left in fat quarters and I had to get one and had to use it in a Swoon block. The green was a happy coincidence and looks like a wreath.
A full size Swoon quilt was not going to happen right now but I wanted customers to see how cute this pattern is. And how big each block is, 24".
A table runner was a good compromise.
I did make a full size Swoon quilt but I did'nt use Quilt Barn fabrics so I cant display it. And it is still in the 'to be quilted pile'.

The backing is such a favorite. I am not usually a novelty fan but that snow lady with horn rimmed glasses? Swoon.

Old Quilts

The other day a customer came into the store with some old quilts and stuff leftover from an estate. She wanted to see if we were interested in any of it, cheap. After my boss had her pick I picked out the unfinished red log cabin blocks, 40$ (I think there were 32 14" blocks).
That was my budget so I didnt pick out anything else.
She said she was donating the rest but would just give it to me if I wanted it. Um, yah I did.
Above quilt is old feedsack fabrics, some older I think. Some staining.

A yellow and white pinwheel quilt, hand quilted. Very rough shape.

Another top only, old shirtings I think.

The stack of red log cabin blocks, 70's and older fabrics. I'm not sure how I am going to use them. Join them as is, with sashing...?
And what about the shabby yellow and white quilt? I am sure it would be labeled a cutter quilt. Stockings maybe? A tree skirt?
There was another quilt, a lone star in greens and yellows. It is very faded and has a hole in it. I was thinking of mounting it on stretcher bars and hanging it, like a painting. Not sure why that quilt picture did'nt load.
I am using old blogger and having some trouble with it.

So, any thoughts?

Stripey Stocking

I love that my friends have different talents than I do (if I could be so bold as to attribute myself with 'talents').
One of my talented friends knits. I have 3 pairs of her socks, a neck warmer and a pair of wrist warmers. How lucky am I?

So when she suggests a swap I am always game. She sent me a picture of a stocking from flickr and asked if I could make it. I even could get that exact fabric so I was quite happy.

The computer I use does not let me use the linky thing so when I get to another computer I will link back to the original one on flickr.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

hello! Its that time of year for The Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side.

I am hoping to add a few new blogs to my favorites list.

I am adding my Ghastlies quilt. Some of you may know I am a huge Halloween fabric fan. I have more fall/halloween quilts that any other.

The scowling little girl with the pink dress? She is holding a hatchet. Love her. She reminds me of my 5 year old.

The pattern is from an older book called 9 Patch Pizaz. I was looking for something that was allow for fussy cutting the fabric. And I got to use pink in a Halloween fabric!

I didnt get to do as much sewing for my favorite season this year. There's always next year.

I have a Christmas project calling my name so I think after the courthouse steps I am moving on to Christmas. I get to pull out my Happy Zombie Holiday Happy and work with some of that.

What is a Hard to Find Fabric?

Sewing Peeps! I have been hearing about 'hard to find fabrics'. How do I find out if a fabric is hard to find? Of course I know about Heather Ross and Flea Market Fancy but is there a master list of these hard to find fabrics? And what are some other HTF fabrics?

Speaking of FMF...what the skinny on that? Its coming out again? Regular like or on Spoonflower?

Sewing Stuff

At work I am making my way through the projects in the book, Simple Home. I'm not a big book person for sewing and crafts but this one I like. I think these 2 projects are 3 and 4.

The doily on the tote. Doilies may be my "stick a bird on it". I will sew a doily on anything.

And some dishtowels. Who knew but you can buy dishtoweling on a roll.

And on a teeny side note, Selvage Blog featured my Fall selvage pillow. I may have said dude 5 times thats how stoked I was.

Little Apples 9 Patch

When heather went to Market in Salt Lake City she brought me back a fat eighth stack of Little Apples. I loved that little stack and did'nt want to cut into it. What to do? I had never used a fat eighth stack and had'nt seen any patterns using one.

I ended up makig 2 quilts with. This is the second one. I had some left over squares and turned them into a bunch of 9 patch blocks. The light background of the blocks is Cosmo Cricket's graph paper. I had been stashing that for a while not knowing what to do with it.

For the backing I used the teal with white and red buttons. I quilted it with a simple diagonal using the squares themselves to eyeball the lines. I am a quick and dirty sewer and marking doesnt appeal to me. Maybe someday.

The second Little Apples quilt is on the table waiting to be sandwiched and quilted.

I didnt end up using the white fat eighths so those will go to the stash until I can think of something to do with them.

Pinwheel Play

I struggled with a pattern, knowing I wanted to do something with pinwheel blocks, but could'nt find one. So, I made one up as I went.

I used Sarah Jane's Children at Play line. I also have the pink girly line and might remake this quilt writing down the instructions as I go.

I quilted it with simple straight line quilting, dampened it and threw it in the washer. It crinkled done and I took it to work. Done and check.

I am quilting my 2 little apples quilts next. Squee! So excited. One I am not so sure about, not in love with it, but maybe the quilting will help.

Single Girl

I could'nt even wait to trim and bind the edges before taking a picture. My Single Girl is finally quilted.

I finished a few months ago but it sat in the to be quilted pile for quite some time. Not sure why.

I went with a straight line quilting to counter the curves. Now for binding. I really like hand sewing binding on.

The vintage sheet Single Girl is done too and I will take a picture of that soon. I love this pattern but not sure after one pillow and 2 quilt tops that I will be making any more of these.

Some in Season

I was skeptical about Denyse Schmidt's line for Joann's. Frankly, it didn't make sense to me. However, I did really like these two fabrics and bought some yardage as soon as it came out to stash away.

A few days before The Sewing Summit I decided I needed a bag to take and made this one. The pattern is from Moda's Fresh fabric Treats. It took me 4.5 hours straight. I think if I make it again the time will be cut a bit. Plus, I was sewing it late at night and a bit bleary eyed.

Lori and I were discussing one of our two windows in The Quilt Barn and this whole cloth fabric quilt looked the part. But it needed something. A pop of color, orange naturally. My favorite. Not sure what I was going to make I bought quarter yard cuts of a bunch of oranges and after messing around for a bit at home I made a Courthouse Steps bed runner. A runner was a good compromise with my time contraints. You can see the whole window display here.

And no holiday would be complete without bunting. I used my fave Halloween line, The Ghastlies and some vintage black tassel fringe.

Nine Dot

Many of the summer's and fall's finished quilts are on display at The Quilt Barn and I haven't been taking pictures of them.

This one is Nine Dot fabric from Henry Glass and, I believe, a free pattern with this fabric.

There was lots leftover (it was a desert roll and white yardage kit) so I used some of it to make paino key border on the back.

It is a toddler size so those pieces were tiny. Especially the piano key border. Those pieces were 1.5 inches wide.

I thought I would be working on this one for a while but it came together fairly quick.

Amy did the tight pebble quilting on the long arm. I have a few more store samples in the long arm queue plus a few of my own, including my Single Girl Quilt.

I have my eye on a few granny square patterns and I am wondering if I need to learn to crochet for the winter. Knitting is still out of my reach.

The weather has dropped like a rock (90'-37" with in a few weeks) and I am already digging out out our winter items and changing out my summer clothes for winter ones. I am thinking about winterizing my riding mower, stowing away the hoses, and planting a few bulbs. Fall may not be for long before winter comes along.

Egads, its a new blog post.
So much has happened this year. Big changes.
One of the super awesome changes is that I now work at The Quilt Barn, media coordinator, stuff maker, people person. I get to blog and sew. Yay!

Lucky Me

Why am I lucky? I am in Lucile with my oldest daughter, Mia.
I have access to a computer (I have 2 laptops being worked on so hopefully I will have my computers back soon).
Missy and I are hauling our treasures up to Washington for our first show of the season.

I am looking at pictures from last year's trip to Farm Chicks (I didnt go this year). Ahh chick brooder, I miss you.

The youngest two are hanging with their dad while we are gone. This is Ava last year. She has grown so much, especially her hair.

I drove up here in my trusty mini van towing a trailer. It didnt go careening into the Salmon River (very lucky me).

I am trying not to buy Missy's treasures as I help load them into the bigger trailer.

Hello all. I still havent fixed my computer. These things give me a headache and I have put fixing it on the After Disneyland List.
Other things on my After Disneyland List are getting ready for the end of June trip to Washington to hopefully sell a bunch of my stuff that I do at hard to resist prices. I am getting a full time job when school starts and I would like to wrap up my old fun job. I do have some fun stuff yet to make. Like a lampshade made out of bleached horse show ribbons and another out of tarnished silverware.
On the Before Disneyland Trip (which we are leaving for on Thursday) is clean the house, finish the travelling outfits for the girls, pack and think about all the little things that I should take on a trip this monumental.
I have 2 DL apps on my iphone, a twitter account to I can update all those interested in what we are doing while there (my mom).
Oh, I also have to weed the itty bitty part of the garden I planted and make sure the 5 rhubarb plants havent gone to seed (remind myself to give away rhubarb when I get back). Mow the grass (Bret can do this) and use the weed eater. We have had crazy rain.

My computer does not want to turn on. So, no pictures for a while.
Tomorrow night is my Guild's sewing night and I made 5 quilts for charity in 2 days and now I need to sandwhich them and maybe get started quilting some of them.
Remember that stack of fabric I showed you? Somehow 5 quilts and 4 backings didnt make much of a dent.
We are going to Disneyland in a few weeks and I am wondering what to pack for everyone. I'm so glad they have lockers so I dont have to carry around everything I think I need.
I really should go to sleep. I have a 5K in the morning. Crazy. And my right knee is killing me (please dont let me come in last!).

Sun Dog Day

My little farm house. This is the greenist my grass will look for the rest of the year. The desck there to the left of off my bedroom.

The house looks small byt it is 2400 square feet.

Nuala and I saw a sun dog today. I saw one last week too. Big storm coming.

Today was also the preschool's walk to the park day. I met them there and she clung to me. I left early so she could go and play with her friends. This is mushed face clinging to mama.

I know I said I had quilt tops to show. I have yet to take their pictures.

All that is left is the Union Jack quilt and then I can get started in my marathon

A Thing for Lighting

The Laughing Dasiy has been given use of the empty windows of the next stores. She hung vintage sheets from a rod hanging from the ceiling. See my new floor lamp? It is so sweet. I wanted to take a better picture but it was a tight space. Maybe click on the picture to see it better.

A few thrifting finds of late. That bag to the right is all the plastic letters I found (see last post). The frame will be spray painted. The glass jars are old mayo jars. I wish they still made them like that. As weet tin compote and and a vintage baby blanket.

And wool yarn. I dont knit. I do crochet a wee bit and the white cotton at the bottom may become dish cloths. The others are all wool and the black has mohair. Now I should learn to knit. I have a friend willing to teach me.

I seem to be on a lighting kick and have 4 more to go. One uses bleached horse rosettes, another silverware and the third mason jars.

Me, With Little Apples

I hit the plastic letter jackpot. I am going to hole punch these babies and make a banner. The rest is going to Washington with me. What? A quarter each?

My peeps went to Quilt Market. Yah, I know. Heather of my number one quilt store, The Quilt Barn, brought me this Little Apples fat eighths pack. Thats 32 fat eighths. The are a couple of my favorites.

I dont get too many comments but I know you are out there (I have my ways) so tell me what to make with this pack! I want to hear from you. Yes, you!

One of my besties brought me back this adorable pack of 6 fat quarters. Cute packaging right?

What to make with this? Hmmm...I have a few ideas. Its Sandy Gervais.

When I quilt I work on 3-5 at once. I have a short attention span. The good thing about this is that when I finish a quilt I have finished many. This past week I wrapped up 5 quilt tops. Now I only have 1 to finish. Pictures to come.

Single Girl Quilt

Well, the Single Girl Quilt top is done. Love the fabrics, but not the quilt.

I have seen enough SG quilts on the flickr group to know that this quilt can turn out great. I would link you to them but the linky thingy isnt working.

The problem was user error. The outer grey arch gave me a headache. Maybe it will look better once I quilt it up.

The pattern calls for borders but I dont think I can look at grey anymore. Its either no borders or a Katie Jump Rope border.

I am thinking of simple line quilting.

I have a mostly finished SG top made from vintage floral sheets and white background. That one seems to be going better. Maybe it is the stiffer white fabric. Its sheets too.

Quilt Til' You Drop

I have been mulling over a day or two of super quilting with friends. I asked my Modern Quilt Guild friends if they would like to join in. Quilt Market is this week and many of them are going so it wont be for a few weeks. I had to dig out my fabric though. This is the pile I came up with including the roll of vintage printed bunny squares and some unfinished projects.
I am thinking of Craft Hope's Project 13, blankets for tornado victims and kids in local foster care.
Now to think of quick but fun free patterns. Any ideas?
I cant cut and paste right now but if you google Craft Hope you can see their blog and the other projects they have done. Its kinda cool.

Today's Junk

First, before the thrifting, I have to show you this tablescape. I needed something big to decorate my 8 seater table. I had this long remenant of sheer fabric and I bunched it up. Next a very heavy mirror of Missy's (I picked some things from Laughing Daisy to borrow). Jennifer had the idea to use it as a tray. The French enamel jug is hers too. A sewing basket and some dried gourds, done. It is a little fallish but I just needed it for a day.
Some one needs to buy this mirror and use it as a tray.

I was staring at the light stuff and noticed this crystal chandelier. Like it wasnt there the whole time. What if I had walked away without noticing. Shudder. I just happen to have a box full of light crystals.

Giant scalloped lamp shade for the other item below. I am going to strip the shredding fabric and wrap the ribs with fabric.

I have been looking for a floor lamp forever. The ones I find are way too new and plain. The base lights up. It is from the 40's though and may need some wiring care.

Two cannisters and a yellow vintage sheet. I have a really awesome plan for that sheet. Now, to find that tutorial.

Getting Ready

Stuff is starting to pile up in my diningroom so I thought I had better start organizing and packing for the June show.

The chandelier project needed to finally get off the kitchen counter. I am almost finished it. The old chain was grungy so I need to see if I can buy a white chain at Lowes. I have 2 more chandelier projects to finish but they can wait. They arent on my kitchen counter.

My next blog post I am going to show what I won on a giveaway. Yes, I finally won something. But it really is for Nuala. It doesnt fit, I tried.

Oh Deer

I visted about 4 new thrift stores on our road trip this weekend. I picked up a fourth globe, a cast iron cow, pyrex cream and sugar, 4 milk glass tumblers, a ceramic deer planter and a white mixing bowl. The small items were all 1$ or under.

Bret found the deer as it came out on a new rack and he picked it up knowing I would like it. He told me another lady saw he pick it up and gave him a dirty look. Tough beans lady.

I need to start pricing my stuff and packing it away for the June raod trip show (in Washington).

I sold a church pew yesterday. I sold it as I found it, wood. Sometimes I dont know what to paint something so I dont. For a fee I am now painting it black for a customer. The color she chose was my second choice. Good thing I left it.

Quickie

I went on a last minute road trip to a state over. Went to Ikea, Joanne's, and a bunch of new junk stores. The girl's got to swim in a hotel pool.
Until I find my camera and show you what I found could you do me a favor?
Today is Bret's 40th birthday and he is a little bummed by the lack of attention. Go to his facebook page, look him up Bret Guisto, and say Happy Birthday on his page. It will freak him out and he will come and tell me about strangers telling him Happy Birthday. I will be mystified.

Summer Show

Missy and I were a little late in applying for summer shows but we managed to find a great one with space for us. It is in Washington, June 18. We are working on some awesome projects and will pack up and head North for some weekend excitement.
I will also be working on my other blog, Idaho Vintage Nesting, showing all our goodies.
A couple of the things that Missy makes are my favorites. Like the lined baskets she sews up. Arent they cute. Also, her handmade birdcages. Click on the picture to see it better. Her steampunk necklaces are coming too. Road Trip!!

Easter for Mom

The girls dressed themselves in their finest for egg hunting. Their mother didnt get around to making the purple bunny skirts. Oh, the woe.

Ava wanted me to set her an alarm clock so she could get up early. Didnt happen. I assured her she would get up on time.

My beautiful 11 year old with size 6.5 feet. I think she is going to be very tall. Or, taller than me at 5'5".

I am slowly getting better. Blah.

A year ago I lost my main set of keys. It had everything dangling off it. Everytime I donated a purse or bag I checked it for the keys because they were somewhere.

Last week they came to me in the mail. Almost a year and a half later I got my keys back. I am not questioning the how I am just thankful.

That same day Nuala found an ipod int he school playground. We turned it in to the office. I hope it finds its way back to its owner.

Fabric Love

KC and I went to The Gathering Place (in Rupert, Idaho) on Friday and I had to buy fabric.
I had been eyeing Peas and Carrots for a while now and finally bought some before I couldnt find it anymore. I coordinated it with...Recess maybe. I cant remember. I took it to Sewing Night Saturday and I am half way through the top. I love this quilt.

Next was a discount fabric place. I was pretty pleased to find the umbrella fabric.
The cat fabric is going to be a cat blanket for Princess. She decided to claim the napkin basket as her own. I am now washing 40 cloth napkins.
I am almost finished all my pumpkin seeds and will be sewing them on soon. I am surprised how fast this quilt top is going.
Mom, Easter pictures tomorrow.
Today, I am sick. A cold, I think. Bret took over Easter and I slept for 3 hours after the egg hunt. I dont have time to be sick.

Pumpkin Seed Quilt

It seems that I have misplaced about half of my current quilting project, the Single Girl Quilt. This happens now and then. It will turn up.
In the meantime I am working on a Pumpkin Seed quilt using Oliver and S Fabric, City Weekend. I am using printed interfacing for the seeds.

I have 7 more fat quarters worth of seeds to make and then on to the applique part. It will be a twin size.
KZ and I are taking a wee road trip today to The Gathering Place in Rupert with our littles. I hope they have some new stuff. If I pick anything up I will share with you.
Today and tomorrow are supposed to be nice days and I am hoping to get some furniture projects done. I also have to update my neglected Idaho Vintage Nesting blog now that it is spring. Stay tuned.

Quilting Finishes

I havent finished my Katie Jump Rope Single Girl quilt but I did get the scrap quilt done. It is baby or floor mat quilt size.

I raw edge applied the squares directly on the background fabric. From these scraps I have also made 2 potholders, a mug rug, a book cover and a cup cozy. I still have lots of scraps.

I guess I should finish up the original quilt.

The next weekend finish. A few weeks ago I found 8 great vintage pillow cases. 2 strips from each case made a log cabin baby blanket.

I didnt think it would crinkle up after washing but it did. I am glad I did more quilting on it than I planned to.

Chairs and Hair

Eep. I finally found a use for my vintage upholstry weight red polka dot fabric. The chairs previously were canned and then covered over with hunter green vinyl circles. One of the canned seats was punched through. I wanted them to match so I covered the vinyl with the dots. The chairs also needed, in my opinion, some paint. Instructions: paint chair then sand most of it back off. It sounds like quilting: cut up fabric then sew it back together. Post 6" haircut picture. Other than the botched bangs, the layers the hairdresser hacked into my actually made it curlier. Note to self, clean the mirror before taking self portraits. Anyone else have changes with their hair after having babies? I used to have poker staight hair. After my third baby I grew wildly curly hair. Well, most of my hair got curly. The top 1/4 of my head is slightly fuzzy so I have to curl it with an iron if I want it to match. Also, this is my natural hair color. It has been a long time since I have seen that. I used to have wheat colored hair but then went too. I attribute that to aging.

Green Displays

More lovely displays a la Jennifer at the Laughing Daisy. The bench isnt mine but everything else I thrifted. Oh, the green reproduction Jadite dishes I bought many years ago from Sears.

The green table and coffee table Missy thrifted. She made the pillows too.

I have Modern Quilt Guild tomorrow night and no place to sew up the stuff that I am demo'ing. I might have to see if The Quilt Barn (where we have our meetings) will let me use their classroom space.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, 59 with no wind. I got some furniture painting and such done. More to finish. Pictures of that later.

Some Sewing

I finally got to do some sewing today. Last night too. I bought 3 block fabrics and the background fabric at the Quilt Barn for the Union Jack quilt. The other 12 fabrics I pulled from my stash. I have all the fabrics cut and one block finished.

A 9 block baby quilt that I made last night using 8 recently thrifted pillow cases. I cant wait to quilt this one up.

I also worked on a few furniture pieces. This week is about more of that kind of work and listing bunch of stuff on etsy.

Thrifting Finds

Too morbid? We love the Lego mystery mini packs. Set 4 has come out and lookie. Of course Bret was the one to come up with this scenario. My favorite was from the last set, a zombie. There are about 10 per set and you dont know what you are going to get.

One of Jennifer's displays using some of my stuff. I made the head board from a dresser mirror frame. I made the matching pillows too. Everything but the table (that was Jennifer's find) was thrifted.

I picked up this cute little magazine night stand. It was already this color I just sanded it. It wouldnt work with most beds now because it is so short buthow cute in a kid's room as a reading table?

I got the Union Jack quilt pattern and picked out a few fabrics from The Quilt Barn. I am going to check my stash to see what else works. I also started on a vintage pillow case log cabin top. I love it. I had some great luck last week with pillow cases and I had to start on it today.

Pillows

My thrifted red plaid couch needed something. I made some pillows for it but i am not happ with them. The pillows themselves are ok but...meh on the couch. The blue and red one is made from a vintage dish towel and baby red piping. The one behind it is a linen grainsack with a red stripe. I added a dresser lace. Behind it is a 1.00 matliesse pillow sham. It needs a bigger insert though. Next set includes another 1.00 sham and a linene and burlap number. I also made one with a handkerchief. It had an itty bitty hole and mydog decided to chew on it. The one below is a scrap of the grainack and lace piece.

My bathrooms are too hard to get pictures of so I can only show you this part of the upstairs bathroom. This is basically how is was when we moved in. We added a new light fixture and mirror. Bits and bobs on the counter were all thrifted.

It is snowing today so I am going to sit and wait and see if my new patterns come in the mail today. I may stop by the Quilt Barn and see if they have the Sherbert Pips layer cakes in. I am goint to make a store sample. Squeal!

Home Tour Outside

Today I am showing you the exterior of my house. This is the front of the house with the large porch. The house was built in 1916. The flower beds are not looking so hot right now.

Our back deck off the laundryroom. There was nothing here when we moved in, just a big step out of the laundry room. Bret poured a four slab concrete deck. The wicker chair was thrifted and has since been spray pained a sage green. The other set came from Kmart 3 years ago when it was 75% off.

Our side deck off our master bedroom. We have a glass door to the deck. Bret and his friend built the deck. We are planning on hanging canvas sails on the top.

I ended up buying the two patterns I showed you yesterday. I am sure I will have to make the map one too.

On to Mia's room. Mia and Ava have switched rooms so many times and, really, neither sleeps in their room. So I have just decorate as I liked. The dresser was mine in college and was blue. Home Tour Living Room

I have spent the last few days working like a madwoman on my house, getting it spiffy. Why not a home tour? I went around a took pictures of each room, well almost each room. First up is the living room, Part 1. I got out the spring and Easter decor and put together a few vignettes. Spring Break, Over

No trip to Lucile would be complete without a tea party, or two. Mia made rocky road fudge and her friend made sugar cookies. Mia also made deviled eggs, her favorite.

And no tea party would be complete without hats. Mia picked the fedora. It used to belong to Bret.

We had a good trip, went junking, built forts on the beach, and got a bit of sewing done. I feel as though I have been working on that dang Single Girl quilt forever.

I am going to try and be a better blogger this week.

Spring Break

I was hoping to get my computer cord today so I could post pictures again but no. Tomorrow the girls and I are off to Lucile for Spring Break!!
I have packed a few sewing projects, Single Girl, Pickle Dish, a Bee block. I am looking forward to not having to get up and get 3 girls ready for school.
I got a kindle as a gift and I am navigating my way through it. I got another gift from a friend. I am amazed by her creativity. I will show you what she made when I can.
Albert, the bunny, ate a quarter sized hole in my king size Dream On quilt. Oh, my life is so exciting. The good news, I will be able to post pictures from Lucile.

Queen of the ROS

I seem to have found myself in another blog pickle.
We have 3 laptops. One mini, this one, that I cant download pictures too. The other one's power cord burned out and the other one had its cord eaten by Albert, our indoor potty trained rabbit. I'm just glad it wasnt the Xbx cord. I dont want to see that meltdown.
So, the pickle. I cant show you pictures. I could have ordered a new cord days ago but I am kind of a procrastinator. No really, I am.

What to tell you???... My grass is staring to get green. I bought a love seat size church pew. Might have to keep it.
Oh, I discovered a sewing tool I never knew about but just have to have. And two others I knew about but never needed until now.

Tool I have to have. You know when you are cutting out a clothing pattern and it has those arrows you cut so you can match up later? I hate doing that. But it turns out it is kind of important. This little doohicky cuts a little notch in the fabric for you. Brilliant.

Tool I used to have but got rid of cause I never used it but I now I need one.
And I am sure I had one of these too.

Use It Up

My lovely friend, Jenele, gave me a stack of fabric from her stash. Hmmm..what to do with it?
I decided a gift pack was in order. First up, an apron. I thought I was making a child's size but I think I made an adult.

What else? How about a Mermaidian doll from the Wee Wonderful book?

A mug rug , 2 potholders, and a coffee cup cozy. I might have enough for a pincushion.

This 'use it up' theme started with my Katie Jump Rope scraps. I have been busy making things witht he leftovers and I am almost done. I love that fabric.

I am well into the spring/summer wardrobe sewing. This outfit is for Ava. I used a women's thrifted long sleeve blouse and made it into a skirt. The bow at the waist is a hair bow made from a cuff. The bracelet with red bottons is from the other cuff.
I felted the women's sweater and cut off the sleeves to create a short sleeve pulloever. The sleeves were made into leggings for Nuala.

Last night we had our pincushion swap at our guild meeting. Look what I recieved!! The pincushion in front is huge and heavy, my favorite kind of pincushion. The one in back is now my 'for good' or 'fancy' pincushion. I love them, thanks Suzanna.
I will be putting the other swappers cushions up on our guild blog later if you would like to check them out. Link and other new outfits later.

Sewing for Spring

I am about halfway through the new coat for Nuala. I picked up the green cord, floral flannel and buttons from Joanne's. The first half took about 4 hours (a class). If I make another for Ava maybe it wont take as long. I pulled out the other 2 pattern I have by her and maybe I will be motivated to make some spring outfits for the girls.
Did you know that Leisl has made patterns for adults now? True and they will be at Joanne's and distributed by Simplicity. She is also having clothing fabric too. Very exciting. Maybe I will get some spring clothes.

More Retreat

I have a few more retreat photos to show you. The star above was the class. This particular student chose to make a much bigger star and finished the top the day before the last day. It is huge, 92X92.
The technique used a kit called Quiltsmart. It is a system of printed interfacing. You can see many more quilt tops from the retreat on Margie's blog here.

Yesterday was one of those days. Today I have a cold. So I am going to lay low. I am working on several projects for our next Guild meeting next Thursday.

Retreat

hello all, I am back from my retreat. I was there from 2:00 Monday to 2:00 Thursday. I am so tired. And overfed.

I was so lucky that a friend of mine, Janele, was there too. I worked on an old UFO, a spiderweb quilt. Link to tutorial here. I had the paper bag full of cut fall scraps for about 2 years. I am so glad I brought it. I got all but 1 row done. I am debating borders. It will be about a twin size.

The other thing I worked on was a pickledish quilt. Link here. I cut the wedges before I left. I made about 100. 1/3 are trimmed (see above). I am not sure of the background.

There was a Go Cutter there and I brought some fabric not knowing what I would cut with it. I decided on tumbler blocks.

I have so much housework and laundry to do. I have guests coming today too so I had better get back to it. More pictures later.

Mushroom House

I am organizing a mystery block (or two) a month for our Modern Quilt Guild. KZ and I have a great theme for this quilt (nature is all I was spilling) and blocks for each month. Two months we are doubling up because we arent doing January or December.
Everyone who is participating is to bring their block to the next meeting so we can see what ideas they came up with.
The blocks are a house and a tree. My house is above. I bought this fabric a while ago and I think I will use it for this quilt. I havent made my tree yet.
For those who wanted a pattern I put a link to Freda's Hive Dollhouse/Cottage block. I will make one of these too and post both on our Guild blog. Others wanted to do their own thing and didnt want a pattern. I am really looking forwrd to seeing what the other blocks look like. Next meeting is our pincushion swap too. Oh, I need to show you those too.

Love Emblem

Squeal, look what I finished last night. I used this free tutorial, Love Emblem by Anna Marie Horner using her Innocent Crush fabrics.

Once I printed out the templates, had them enlarged on card stock, cut them and the fabric out it was easy peasy. Like the Single Girl quilt it is alot of preparation but now that I have done that I can make one of these while the girls watch Despicable Me, for the 10th time.

I have enough left over scraps to a make a pillow.

I am thinking one of these with vintage sheets.

Ironstone

More thrifting stuff. And some Valentine stuff. I made a few stuffed hearts.

I am still going through all the treasures in the basement and came across a bag of embroidery rolls. Hmmm, what to do with them. Stuff them in glass jars.

The twisted hanks were cute too. Great colors for the holiday.

And now the thrifting. Missy was over we hit a few hot stores. Most of the white dinnerware is ironstone (.5O to .75 cents each>. The 3 large ones are fiesta ware. They are stinking heavy too, 1.5O each. The bottom goes to a butter dish. I am always finding tos but no bottoms.

A knitting magazine from 1947 for .25. Wish I knew how to knit.

Today we set fire to our burn stack. It was huge and in minutes was tiny. Now I smell like smoke. Maybe after the yard work I can get to some sewing. You have to take advantage of 6O degree weather while you can.

I have been going through all my fabric and such. Last summer I gave 4 boxes of fabric to a church group who make quilts. Then I hd a yard sale and what I didnt sell I donated. I now have a basket of fabrics I am getting rid of. And then there are my vintage sheets. Wont get rid of them. So, what to do with the previously cut up parts?
I sorted them and made charm packs. I love the green one above.

The blue one is pretty cool too.

And the floral layer cake. I also made 200 charm squares of the floral. Then I tied them up pretty and put them in a box. I guess that is organizing, right? Maybe I will put them on etsy.
Maybe there is someone crazy about sheets too.

Of course there were pieces smaller than 5". Then I got tired of cutting the same ones so I dumped them in the scrap pile. I am still not able to start the Single Girl. Quilt so maybe I will make a smal quilt with these.

I have had a few quilting mishaps lately. Stupid mistakes or mishaps. I need to get back in the groove. Tomorrow is Guild and I need to make a flanged binding tutorial. I think I am going to demo this on potholders. No time for a whole quilt.

After Nuala gets on the preschool bus I am going to take myself to lunch, huevos rancheros with the most awesome refried beans.

Just an aside, the hubs is out of town this week, hence the doing nothing.

Single Girl Sample

After staring at the 544 pieces I cut for a queen size Single Girl quilt I put it away.

I thought making a sample pillow might help break the SG slump. I used bits from my scrap bucket and it actually was fairly simple. The template making, cutting and sorting was the hardest most time consuming part.

However, I dont think it makes a good pillow. It is quite big, 21 inches. Not a standard pillow form size.

All I notice (when it has the insert) is the white. I may have to rethink the background color I use for the quilt.
Big sewing month. This Thursday is Guild Night, my retreat is at the end of the month and I am taking a class on this pattern. I love the fabric I bought. I have 4 Oliver and S patterns and have yet to use one.

It is one of those mornings. My five year old is whining about everything. Crying, bossing me around. Urg. How long until her school bus comes? Then I catch my three legged terrier humping a dolphine pillow pet. I give her a look and she stops. I think it is a nap day for me.

Its Monday

While attempting to organize my fabric and such I found a couple of UFOs that I forgot I had. Like this quilt using Mother Goose fabrics. I think I bought it 2+ years ago. I had 2 blocks made but I couldnt remember what I was going for.

This is what I ended up with. I am going to drop it off at the quilter's today.

The little pink kitchen cabinet I picked up the other day. Love it. Inside the bottom door is a small shelf. Cute detail. I am thinking it would be a cute book shelf for the girls. I have been finding Richard Scarey's books. They were my absolute favorites as a kid. My girls arent quite as enamoured.
Yesterday I cleaned my entire house. I went to bed exhausted. Today I am doing nothing. Nothing I tell you.

Fabric Friday

I am guessing aprons.

One of our local fabric stores was closing and when their fabric was on sale for 3$ a yard I picked up a bunch or this line. This may become summer clothes for the girls.

Sady, Aunt Bea's online store is also closing. No idea what these are going to become but they are going to the stash. At first I thought the bicycles with flowers in the basket were snails wearing crowns. I guess the bikes are cute too.

Mia's Room

Our girls have been switching room alot. What once was Ava's purple room (she chose the ice wine color) is now Mia's. I have been meaning to make her a duvet cover forever. the two fabrics came from my stash. The back is a white sheet.
The walls then looked bare so I made up a few hoops. Three have watching fabric, plus one with some yoyo's and the last one is a glue gunned circle of grey, purple and white buttons.

The floor is bare. We have plans of new carpeting.

At the end of the bed is a recent UFO finish I shared with you. Here is it washed and the raw edge flowers fluffed up. Love it. I would totally make this one again.

The curtain is a hemmed vintage sheet.

Birthday Post

Yesterday was a pretty good day. Not only was it my birthday (go 39!) but a very dear friend (known since we were 13) had a baby girl. She had a baby pool and naturally I put in for Feb 1 so I won. Love you mama.
On our way to birthday dinner we stopped of at a thrift store. I was looking for vintage plastic knitting needles for a soon to be revealed project (nothing to do with knitting). No needles but lookie..

Wool Quilt and Hexagon

I've picked up my hexagon pieces again. I last worked on them at the end of last summer. I had all the flowers made (35) and a ton of white spacers already made.

This is how far I've come putting all the sections together.The top is to the right, top to bottom.

As you can see I put in an extra row and the last row I did is too long. Urg. Now I have to unpick.

I have 3 more rows to go.
Another in progress quilt top. I used 4 skirts and one pair of pants (bought for .25 each), felted them and cut them into 10 inch squares. Here I have pinned the top, batting and backing to an inch of its life. I also spray basted it. I have finished quilting it (simple in ditch) and will work in the binding tonight.

It feels like Spring outside. We got cold this winter but not much snow. Odd for Idaho.

I have finished my hankie Valentine top and now have to sandwich it. I'm not sure how to quilt it.

Book Challenge 2011

Books I've Read 2011 This is my third yead keeping track of the books I have read for the year. Last year I rated the books (mostly to remind myself of the books I liked).
I challenged myself to read 100 books in 2010. I read 106. I am not going to try and read 100 this year. I found that near the end of the year I wouldnt read 'large' books because it might take too long and I had to reach 100 books.

Dresden Plates

I am making headway on the dresden plate blocks. I have 11 of the 12 made. I dont have enough Hush a Bye or Nicey Jane to make the last block so I am thinking about what to use.

I struggled with what fabric to use for the centers. I ended up using a wiggly stripe pink.

I am thinking about hand quilting this one, like in the book I used, Material Obsession.

I got my Katie Jump Rope package in the mail, 32 fat quarters. Squeal. I cut into it today, after cutting 36 different templates. I bought from this etsy seller and they were great. I see they are on vacation now but if you are looking for fun fabric bundles this is the place.

Quilt Monday

I guess I had better let you in on the work I got done. Nothing quite as dramatic as the boob job someone guessed.
The teeth. I have been bothered by my front teeth forever and I had them shaped and made smaller. I asked Mia if she noticed anything with my teeth and she answered, "are they cracked?".
Now the finished quilt. I finished the top about 3 plus years ago. I bought a 10 yard roll of batting a month ago and tried to finish up a bunch of UFOs. I found a vintage sheet backing that matched quite well and stitched in the ditch.

The four layers of petals are raw edge appliqued and I havent washed it yet. They are supposed to fluff up, or something.
Mom, did I give you this pattern?

I am working in a dresden plate quilt out of the Hush a Bye and Nicey Jane scraps from the Roundabout quilt.

I also have had the Single Girl quilt pattern burning a hole on my shelf. I just couldnt decide on fabric. I really wanted it in the fabric shown, Katie Jump Rope. So I bought a bundle of 31 KJR fat quarters from etsy. Oh yah. I need 17 circles for a queen size bed so I though I would have this as this year's bee block. That leaves 5 for me to make.

I finally have the before and after pictures up. I didnt want to have to suddenly open to my goofy smiling face so I am showing you some of the great thrifted clip on earrings I picked up the other day. The carved pink ones on the bottom are my favorite.
I was thinking of making magnets out of them but now I think some of them need to be made into rings.

An the after. See anything different? When I asked my oldest daughter if she saw anything different she had some very sobering words. Leave it to an 11 year old to put it all into perspective for you.

By the way, I found my camera in my 7 year old's bedside table. I am surprised I found it. It was quite by accident.

I Dont Like Mondays

I am cranky today. A real grouch.
I cant find my camera.
My children have decided to try out "ultimate bratty" on for size.
I am getting tired of having the second floor a disaster. We are done painting the 3 bedrooms and now have to do the bathroom and craft room.
It is cold. 19 degrees, but no snow.

I need to think of things I am happy about.
Since starting The Ultimate Shred and Slimfast 4 dyas ago I have lost one pound.
I got a new purse and wallet for Christmas yesterday.
I found some great vintage pins at my local thrift. When I find my camera I will show you.
I am going to one of my favorite restaurants, Local Dish, this week. 80% of the food they use is local.

About the picture. I found it. One of my girls must have taken it. It is the side of the closet that has my dresses and coats. Is that a fur coat you ask? Why yes it is. In fact, there is another to the far left. They were my grandmothers. I have no idea what to do with them.

la Petite Ecole

Hehe. I caught Heather in the picture.
I picked up this kit and after it was quilted by the ladies of the Quit Barn Heather asked if I would like a great deal on the quilting if I let her display it for a few months. She just got this line in. I thought about it for 2 seconds .
I attached the binding last night and dropped it off today. She has much better lighting than my house.
I know I said I would show you the before and afters of the work I got done but the after pictures have not been good. I am putting my foot down and not showing you bad after shots. Tomorrow.
I am doing the Jillian 30 Day Shred DVD. I am on day 2. I am so not fit in any way. I have gained 15 pounds in the last year and would like to take them off so I can fit back into my clothes. I'll let you know if it works.

Happy Zombie

My camera does not do justice to the great colors of the Happy Zombie line of Christmas fabric. Here is some better pictures. I used a pattern from the last Quilts and More magazine. It was a great issue and this is the second quilt I have made from that issue.

I ditch quilted along the white strips. I dont think it was enough, it left the quilt a little puffy for my tastes. But it is a winter quilt so I left it as is.

Yesterday I had some work done. Dont hate. I will show you the before and after pictures tomorrow. I didnt tell anyone about it and was wanting to see if anyone noticed. No one did. Bah.

Quilty Stuff

I cant remember the name of this fabric. Sandi Henderson maybe.

It is about a year in the making. I had the fabric cut and ready and then nothing. Man, it was so easy to finish. Why did it sit so long.

I used the Turning Twenty...Again. Again. I think this is the third quilt using this.

This tree skirt is about 3 years in the making. It is from a Buggy Barn book. I am not so sure it matches my stuff now.

I did the count on one of my Resolutions (or as Mia calls them revolutions( for 2O1O. I set a goal to read 1OO books. I read 1O6. This year I am just going to read and record. I found that I would turn away books that were huge.

I have seen a few blogger coming out with a word for the year. I gave some thought about what mine would be, if I had one. Well, now I do. Forward.

Last of 2O1Os Fall

The last few days have been about finishing some quilting projects that were mostly finished. This orange and yellow table runner just needed to be quilted about bound.

I used fabrics from my stash and made it long enough for my 8 seater table. I love the colors and wish it were a big quilt.

This quilt came back from the quilters about a month ago. It was made the fall before last. I used a layer cake and it is a Tossed 9 patch. It jut needed to be bound.

I love the quilting on it. They used an orange thread and it has a pumpkin pattern.

This was another quilt that was taken to the quilters during their sale in November. For a week all quilting was 3O% off. I took in 7 quilts. 2 new and 5 UFOs. This was a UFO.

This was make using the Old Red Barn quiltalong. Round 1 maybe.

I am thinking of giving this one away at the end of the summer. It is more a Fall quilt.

All three of these are going into an orange tote to be stashed away. I have a few more fallish items to work on and then on to the Winter/Christmas sewing projects. I would have finished the Happy Zombie quilting but I ran out of white thread and now I have to wait until tomorrow.

Today it is Black Eyed Peas for dinner and finish a duvet for Mia.

We had a nice quiet Christmas.

Someone lost another tooth.

These were the hot ticket this year. We had two of them but the one with glasses was not to be found. They were all she wanted.

Bret found it at a corner store in Las Vegas while there for the BSU game a few days before Christmas.

On Christmas Eve we made chocolate covered stuff. The bits on the left are coffee beans. The other tiny bits are whole almonds. We had chocolate left over so we hunted for things to dunk. The oranges were tasty.

I went to the mall the day after Chrsitmas. Me, at the mall. It was actually quiet. One of my favorite stores had everything 4O% off. I bought a whole new wardrobe. I tried to buy grey boots but didnt find quite what I was looking for.

I should be doing other things. Can you tell. I should be painting.

Dream On

Let me say first that it isnt easy taking pictures of a king size quilt indoors.
Did I say king size quilt. Sigh. I did. I misread the directions and now I have an enormous quilt.
I used a Dream On jelly roll and way too much Kona Snow.
I also didnt realize that the Kona solids frayed so much. I am covered in threads.

I wanted to show you how big it really is. The quilt is on my queen size bed. Check out the overhang.

Fortunently I have an original sheet that one of the designs was based on so I dont have to buy a backing.

I saw that Joannes has their spring stuff out. I have never been so glad to see a fake daffodil wreath in my life.

Happy Zombie Quilt

10 fat quarters, some yardage and a bunch of white and it is finished, my Happy Zombie quilt.

I saw the pattern in the last Quilts and More magazine and knew I had to make it. I also had to make the Dream On quilt and that on is almost done too.

The green is my favorite, I think. I know that they are little snowmen but they remind me of food coloring bottles.

For Christmas Ava asked for make up, a skunk stuffie (she has 5 already), and surprises. She has managed to accidently rip a small hole in most of her gifts. So much for surprises.
